Healing With Sound

What’s the first thought that springs to mind when thinking of musical instruments? A band – marching, garage, jazz, rock, swing? I could keep naming the many ways which musical instruments play a part in life, but seldom is the first thought about their use in the healing arts.

Recently, I was invited to a Native American drumming ceremony that was being held to remember, honor and restore a parcel of land that had been neglected on the Tesuque Indian Reservation just outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico. My husband works as a residential paver and had a full schedule working with the land in his own way, so could not attend. I was on my own.  (more…)

Three Instruments the Music World Doesn’t Want to Live Without

Humans are ingenious when it comes to making music. From blowing on a reed of grass, or through a sheep’s horn to pounding on a hollow log – we’ve always found a way to express our natural rhythm.

What do you think makes an instrument popular? Is it the player or the instrument itself? After all, since music is everywhere and I propose, in everything, it’s a matter of coaxing it out for all to hear. It’s in the player. Good performers often elevate the quality of an instrument with their skill, talent and ability.

When you go to a concert you expect the artists will be playing with their favorite instruments to give their finest performance.
